Final press conference under project "Innovative techniques and methods for reducing marine litter in the coastal areas of the Black Sea" (BSB552 RedMarLitter) was held on August 12, 2021 at 09:30 in the premices of the Municipality of Burgas. The project implementation ended with final project meeting held in the period 10-12 August 2021. The leading partner of the project is the Via Pontica Foundation, and the other partners are: Municipality of Burgas, Ovid University - Constanta and Tbilisi State University.
The duration of the project is 30 months (from September 2018 to February 2021), with a total budget of 580 335.60 € (1135014.12 BGN), and the grant under the program amounts to 533 908.74 € (1044212.96 BGN).
Achieved results of the project are:
• Identification of solid waste pollution in the Black Sea basin with a focus on certain representative areas and monitoring of the main polluting flows;
• Development of a computer simulated map of the distribution of solid waste in the Black Sea;
• Conducting pilot cleaning through innovative methods developed under the project in selected pilot areas;
• Creation of a Manual for environmentally friendly treatment of marine solid waste;
